The motivation of the LaBeouf character was different in 1969 film. Several characters were added to the 2010 film that were not in the 1969 film or the novel. The events that precipitated the hiring of Rooster Cogburn were actually portrayed in the 1969 film. This did not happen in the 2010 film.
