"You Can't Hurry Love" is a 1966 song originally recorded by the Supremes on the Motown label.

Their first number one hit was “Where Did Our Love Go” in 1964. In 1967 Gordy made Ross the lead singer of the group; Ballard was replaced by Cindy Birdsong. That same year, the group's name changed to Diana Ross and the Supremes highlighting Ross's role as the lead singer.

The Supremes A' Go-Go (1966), their ninth studio album, contains the million-seller "You Can't Hurry Love". Their tenth studio album, The Supremes Sing Holland–Dozier–Holland (1967), featured the million-sellers "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone", which both topped the US Hot 100.

Exit from the Supremes and solo career (1967–1970) Ballard expressed dissatisfaction with the group's direction throughout its successful times. She would also claim that their schedule had forced the group members to drift apart.
