Their breakthrough hit, “Baby I Need Your Loving,” was produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland in 1964, and was followed by greater success with “I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” in 1965, the Tops' first #1 hit.

Levi Stubbs (born Levi Stubbles, June 6, 1936 – October 17, 2008) was an American baritone singer, best known as the lead vocalist of the R&B group the Four Tops, who released a variety of Motown hit records during the 1960s and 1970s. He has been noted for his powerful, emotional, dramatic style of singing.

Originally named the Four Aims, the Motown group the Four Tops started in Detroit, Michigan at a high school graduation party in 1954. Levi Stubbs, Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Lawrence Payton, and Renaldo “Obie" Benson signed with Chicago's Chess Records in 1956.

With Fakir being the only remaining original member, the reconstituted Four Tops continue to perform around the US and the world. In the end, the story of the Four Tops is one of group harmony, on and off the stage. And Duke Fakir was the one constant through it all.
